The Tigers Within

Thus week, I would like to share this lovely Indian story, of which I have heard many different versions over the years.

An old Indian tells his Grandson, “We have two tigers inside of us. One is happy, peaceful, compassionate, understanding, cooperative, generous, graceful, cheerful, magnanimous, loving, giving and kind. The other is unhappy, angry, resentful, jealous, contemptuous, suspicious, uncooperative and unkind. These two tigers are constantly at war with each other”.

“Which one wins?” asked the little boy.

“The one you feed the most”, was the reply.

In every situation in  our lives, we have more than one choice. For every choice that we make, we have a voice deep down that speaks to us – from the point of view of our deepest values. It may sometimes be difficult to do what it asks, but in the long run, it certainly pays to listen to that deep (and often soft) voice.
